Herman & Coufal

Despite their young age, Herman and Coufal currently belong to he most interesting designers that the Czech Republic has to offer. Each project seems to get if not a prize then a nomination. Their scope is rather broad, ranging from product design, public space design to exhibition installations and presentations. Their exterior bench Satellite made for MMCité have so far gained them most media attention. Its distinct concrete form of a „plate“ demonstrated sculpture qualities without losing any functionality. The bench won them the Objav roka 2016 title (Discovery of the Year 2016) at the Czech Grand Design. Their cooperation with Bomma brought them RED DOT Design Awards prize for the IGNIS lighting collection that showed original work with cut glass. Lately, they have been testing the option of bending metal tubes and rods. Having started with the minimalist geometrical Gong lights, they continue with the series of Spagetti hangers. Their shape result from observing how we mostly hang our coats on hangers, so they made them in two versions – standing and hanging.
