The project by Sofya Samareva started in 2014. It is based on a new understanding of traditional head covers. Thanks to Sofyia’s sculptural approach to each piece of the collection the hats become a hairstyle and vice versa.
The Sofya’s hats escaped from the box of conservative forms and contexts. Precise processing of traditional felt material transforms this accessory of smart clothing into a playful sculptural object: a wearable and practical head cover is open to unexpected combinations due to novelty of its form.
Sofya creates opportunities for playful manipulation of a human body. With her hat you put a balanced fusion of aesthetic perfectionism with a witty funky combination of art and fashion on your head.
After study at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecutre and Design and the London College of Communication, Department of Graphic Design and New Media, she began to work with specific 3D shapes and their function. She graduated at the Fashion and Footwear Design Department at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecutre and Design with a collection of hats on the border between design and art object. With this project she started cooperating with leading Czech designers, her head covers complemented the collections by Liběna Rochová or Monika Drápová. She has been invited to this year’s Dutch fashion festival, Fashion Maastricht 2015.
