UNIVERZÁLNY_SUBSTRÁT Lucia Čarnogurská: It’s Just a Stone, 2026

„It’s just a stone“, povedal mi pán na exkurzii v lome, keď som mu nadšene ukázala svoj úlovok.

Nečudujem sa. Plánom bolo nájsť vínovočervené české granáty veľkosti ryže, no v mojej ruke sa černel kus toho najrýdzejšieho čadiča.

V práci It’s Just a Stone sa zaoberám otázkou, kto rozhoduje o kategórii just a či je toto rozdelenie definitívne. Zámerne v nej siaham po obyčajnom kameni z kategórie just a stone, čadičovej kocke, po ktorej denne kráčame. Jej štiepaním, rezaním a vŕtaním pod uhlom vytváram nepravidelné prstene.

It’s Just a Stone je doplnená kameňmi vo forme korálok osadených v strieborných náušnicových komponentoch. Zámerné využitie dostupných komponentov je priamym odkazom na archetypálny masový šperk, ktorý od drahého kameňa očakávame. Otázkou teda nie je len materiál, z ktorého je prsteň vyrobený, ale aj jeho využitie.

Is it just a ring?

“It’s just a stone”, a man told me on a quarry excursion when I excitedly showed him my catch. I’m not surprised. The plan was to find wine-red Czech garnets the size of a grain of rice, but in my hand lay a piece of the purest basalt.

In the work It’s Just a Stone, I explore the question of who decides what falls into the “just a” category and whether this classification is definitive. I deliberately choose an ordinary stone from the “just a stone” category—a basalt cube that we walk over every day. By chipping, cutting, and drilling it at an angle, I create irregular rings.

It’s Just a Stone  is complemented by stones in the form of beads set in silver earring components. The deliberate use of readily available components is a direct reference to the archetypal mass-produced jewelry we expect from gemstones. So the question is not only the material the ring is made of, but also its use.
