Back (c)up(cake) je vtipnou reakciou na neistú budúcnosť v umeleckej brandži. Idea projektu vznikla v roku 2018, keď sme si ako študentky sochárstva uvedomovali náročnosť vybudovania kariéry v podmienkach, aké naša malá krajina ponúka. Po rokoch deštrukcie kultúry sa táto téma zdá byť ešte omnoho aktuálnejšia.
Special situations require special solutions. Náš back-up plán bol piecť koláče, ktoré budú vyzerať ako plesnivé – no nebudú. Absurdnosť nápadu odzrkadľuje bezradnosť v čase, keď sa k osobným neistotám pridali aj tie celospoločenské. Projektom reagujeme na tému „živenia sa umením“ cez primárnu potrebu – jedlo.

Back (c)up(cake) is a humorous response to the uncertain future in the art world. The idea for the project originated in 2018, when, as sculpture students, we realized how challenging it is to build a career under the conditions our small country offers. After years of cultural destruction, this topic seems even more relevant today.
Special situations require special solutions. Our backup plan was to bake cakes that would look moldy—but wouldn’t actually be. The absurdity of the idea reflects our helplessness at a time when personal uncertainties have been compounded by societal ones. Through this project, we address the theme of “making a living through art” via a basic necessity: food.
